Who I Am
I’m Kristen Wright. I am a Marital and Family Therapist and Art Therapist.
What I Do
I am passionate about helping my clients find relief from their suffering and developing healthy behaviors and outlooks on life.
My treatment modality is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidence-based treatment that helps people understand the relationships between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Treatment aims to help patients replace negative thoughts and develop new behaviors.
As part of the EDTLA team, I am passionate about helping individuals to overcome their disordered eating and developing a healthy relationship with food. With people recovering from a severe eating disorder or dieting, or struggling with anxiety over food or body image, I create a treatment plan that caters to each individual’s needs and provides reasonable and understandable goals.
As we become a more aware and inclusive society, it is essential to be trauma-informed and look at how events can affect our perspective and outlook on life. When screening for trauma (PTSD), I will help you first see if CBT is right for you.
I received a Master of Arts degree in Marital and Family Therapy at Loyola Marymount University with an emphasis in Clinical Art Therapy. I believe Art Therapy is a transformative experience and a creative way of expressing difficult emotions and uncovering unconscious thoughts. It does not require any skill or creative talent on the client’s part. When appropriate I will ask clients to create collages or use colors to help deal with difficult feelings. Upon request, I can create a treatment plan that utilizes more creative arts.
My previous work has also included treatment facilities for children on the spectrum, adolescents, and children suffering from severe depression, sexual abuse, and other trauma. I also have worked at an addiction recovery center for adult women.
