Who I Am

I am Carolyn (Hersh) Comas (she/her). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Certified Supervisor.

What I Do

My passion is helping people who struggle with their relationship with food, body image and self. My goal is to help my clients emancipate themselves from destructive thoughts and behaviors and create a more balanced outlook on life. I base my treatment on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while also incorporating Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills and motivational interviewing. I help people to challenge automatic negative thoughts, decrease anxiety, and help obtain a more balanced and sustainable attitude.

As part of the EDTLA team, I am honored to be able to help people with all types of eating disorders and supporting them in their recovery. I firmly believe in starting where the client is and guiding them onto a successful path of recovery. I have experience working with teens who struggle with identity issues as well as clients with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship issues, and grief counseling. I have a particular interest in working with teens and adults with ARFID.

As a certified eating disorder specialist and clinical supervisor at EDTLA, I supervise and mentor more junior therapists. I also serve as certification chair for the International Association for Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) Los Angeles chapter.

More About Me

I received my Masters in Social Work degree from Adelphi University in New York. I have worked in both residential and partial hospitalization facilities for adolescents and adults with eating disorders and other comorbid diagnoses.

I recently relocated to Los Angeles from New York. I was a figure skater and ice skating coach for many years. I love music, corgis, and traveling.

How I Help

My goal is to offer my clients the tools to tap into their own inner strengths to help cultivate growth and modify negative thoughts and behaviors. My approach stems from empathy and compassion.
