Who I Am
Hi, I’m Jonathan Dang (he, him). I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
What I Do
I enjoy creating a safe space where you can freely articulate your thoughts without judgement and we can connect on a deep level. Oftentimes, you may perceive me taking on the role of a compassionate and empathetic coach who will stand by the sidelines cheering you on— patiently reminding you of your strengths as well as the strategies we’ve thoughtfully crafted during our sessions—and encouraging you to take on challenges despite feelings of self-doubt, uncertainty, and fear that can often arise.
I have experienced those same self-defeating thoughts and feelings in my own life. We all experience these negative thoughts and feelings and it is okay to ask for support to better navigate our lives.
I have been heavily influenced by an evidence-based treatment model called Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) after receiving extensive trainings and participating in multiple consultation meetings offered by the County of Riverside. I lean on this particular model to effectively provide assistance with your own personal challenges, whether you are practicing mindfulness, regulating emotions, discovering ways to reduce stress, or establishing healthy boundaries with your relationships. To add to this statement, I iterate the importance of learning how to “Build A Life That Is Worth Living” as a revolving theme present in the DBT model. I am excited to be working and learning under Dr. Lauren Muhlheim’s supervision in the field of eating disorders. I will bring my DBT and behavioral training into my work with individuals experiencing eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and other specified feeding and eating disorders.
More About Me
During my free time, you can find me exploring different parts of Los Angeles with my girlfriend and our Corgi. We usually drop by the nearest Starbucks before our little adventure to get our fix (that includes a puppacino for little Maki). You can also find me in the kitchen like one of those Master Chef contestants as I rummage through our cupboard pretending it is a Mystery Box challenge (watching all 10 seasons really does come in handy sometimes). I would consider myself somewhat of a taco connoisseur as I attempt to find the best tasting tacos in LA.
I am serving as a co-chair of the Male Eating Disorder SIG for the Academy for Eating Disorders.
How I Help
I believe that therapy opens the door for empowerment, growth, and genuine happiness. Compassion, empathy, and patience—this is what I can offer as your therapist.
