Who I Am

Hi, I’m Jonathan Dang (he, him). I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Clinical Supervisor at EDTLA.

What I Do

I enjoy creating a safe space where you can freely articulate your thoughts without judgment, and we can connect on a deep level. Oftentimes, you may perceive me as taking on the role of a compassionate and empathetic coach who will stand by the sidelines cheering you on. I may be patiently reminding you of your strengths as well as the strategies we’ve thoughtfully crafted during our sessions. I may also encourage you to take on challenges despite feelings of self-doubt, uncertainty, and fear that can often arise.

Through the past years, I have had extensive training in a variety of evidence-based treatment models: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution-Focused, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Family Based Treatment, and Motivational Interviewing. I use these guiding principles to create a specific treatment plan to help reduce the impairing symptoms that are impacting your life. At the same time, I take a humanistic approach. This is an approach that prioritizes the therapeutic relationship and encourages us to evaluate the value of our time together in sessions.

I joined EDTLA in 2020. I am immensely grateful to have learned under Dr. Lauren Muhlheim and Carolyn Comas, who both served as my Clinical Supervisors for the first few years as I accrued my hours as part of my certification as an eating disorder specialist, through IAEDP. Subsequently, I am in the process of preparing the next steps to achieve this long-standing goal of obtaining my CEDS. I am also now supervising some of the prelicensed associates at EDTLA.

I am serving as a co-chair of the Male Eating Disorder SIG for the Academy for Eating Disorders. I have had opportunities to facilitate training for other providers in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and recently co-facilitated a Continuing Education course regarding an overview of eating disorder treatment and best practices. Before working at EDTLA, I worked in a variety of correctional facilities and hospital settings.

I have a passion for working with adults dealing with issues related to their relationship with food and/or body image concerns. I find myself having a strong desire to advocate and educate on eating disorders, body image, and the connection with the fitness/nutrition industry.

More About Me

In my free time, I love exploring and discovering new places in Los Angeles with our small family of two dogs. I find bliss when having opportunities to share a meal with family, friends, or strangers, especially when I get to connect with different cultures and cuisines.

How I Help

I believe that therapy opens the door to empowerment, growth, and genuine happiness. Compassion, empathy, and patience—this is what I can offer as your therapist.
